What’s With Brawl’s Online Multiplayer?

I’ve been enjoying Brawl as I’m sure many of you have, but last night I ran into a little snag. My roommate and I had this great idea: “What if the two of us took on another pair in a team battle online?” It sure seemed like a great idea as we were a little tired of fighting only each other, and with the magic of the internets in this here 21st century it seemed eminently possible. The sad truth, unfortunately, is that it isn’t.

If we wanted to play each other and two other internet-people we would apparently need two Wiis to do it, one for each of us. This boggles my mind. Is there a good reason why two (or three) people in the same room can’t fill out the lineup with internet-people? I know there’s no technological reason for it so I’m just trying for figure out for what design reason they might have made this choice. Maybe they’re trying to encourage anti-social behavior for some nefarious purpose. I suppose if they make it harder to share with friends they might sell more games? Or maybe they were just being lazy. Either way, it’s really stupid that Nintendo wont allow it. But otherwise, it’s an incredibly addictive game.

You don’t need two wii’s. You just have to create the brawl yourself, I’ve done it. You can have up to 3 people on one wii that way.

Oh rly? That’s interesting. I’ll have to try that tonight when I get home. I hope you’re right, even if it does deflate my post.
